• What can Sculptra help with – and what can’t it?

• What is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA)?

  Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) is a biocompatible, biodegradable polymer used in Sculptra to stimulate natural collagen production. Once injected, its microparticles activate fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen synthesis, helping your skin gradually rebuild volume and structure. The particles are absorbed over time, leaving behind firmer, more resilient skin.

• Why is collagen important for your skin?

  Collagen is the structural protein that keeps skin firm, elastic, and smooth. Think of it as the internal scaffolding that gives your face its shape and support. As early as your 20s, collagen production begins to decline by about 1% per year, contributing to volume loss and changes in skin quality. Supporting collagen levels helps maintain youthful contours and overall skin integrity.

• How is Sculptra different from dermal fillers and SKINVIVE™?

  Sculptra uses injections of poly-L-lactic acid to help stimulate your body’s own collagen production over time, gradually restoring volume and improving facial structure with results that build naturally. Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to instantly add volume, shape specific areas, and smooth deeper lines with more immediate results. SKINVIVE also uses hyaluronic acid, but in the form of microdroplets, designed to hydrate and improve skin smoothness and glow rather than add volume or reshape features. 

• How does pricing work?

  Sculptra is priced per vial. During your consultation, your provider can recommend the most efficient path to your desired results, tailored to your goals, timeline, and budget. • Is Sculptra safe?

  Sculptra is FDA-approved in the United States and has been trusted worldwide since 1999. While safe for most people, this treatment may not be appropriate for those with certain allergies, medical conditions, or a history of autoimmune disease. Be sure to share your full health history with your Nuey provider so we can tailor your care safely and effectively.

• Are there any side effects to Sculptra?

  Mild swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site is common and typically resolves within a few days. Small lumps under the skin may occasionally develop and are usually only noticeable when pressing on the area. • What is the downtime?

  Downtime is minimal, but mild swelling or bruising may occur and typically resolves within a week. We recommend Sculptra treatments at least two weeks before big events, in case any bruising or swelling prolongs. • Is this treatment safe for everyone?

  Sculptra is not recommended if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, or have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring. Your Nuey provider will review your medical history to ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
